Sermon Series: Living in the Spirit
It ought to be obvious that the spiritual life is dependent upon the life and work of the Holy Spirit. Yet many people who call themselves “spiritual” have an impoverished understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit. They do not realize the incredibly rich role he has played, and longs to play, both in the world and in the lives of ordinary people. Indeed, the Holy Spirit is the person of the Trinity through whom God carries out his work in us and through us. The Spirit has often been the most neglected and misunderstood member of the Trinity, partly because the very nature of the Holy Spirit’s ministry is to shed a spotlight on Jesus (John 16:14) rather than on himself. But deepening our understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit is a wonderful means of enriching us personally and as a church to carry out his mission of transformation.
