The Lord's Supper (Communion)
Throughout its history, the Christian Church has kept at the centre of its public worship both the preaching of God's Word and the celebration of the Lord's Supper. In doing so, Christians have followed Jesus' command to "do this in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19).
It's Meaning
Communion points to Christ, whose body and blood were given for us, setting us free from sin and death. It also expresses the fellowship and unity of all believers with Christ. It is a time of remembrance, celebration, and praise, which strengthens believers for true discipleship and service.
Who Is Invited?
A simple answer to the question of who is invited is “all believers;” that is, people who “confess Jesus Christ as Lord in word and life.” Additionally, we emphasize that participants “understand its meaning”, and are “accountable to their congregation.” Children who believe and confess that Jesus is Lord have an authentic faith. However, they may have a limited understanding of the meaning of communion or what accountability to Christ and their fellow believers involves.
