The wildfires that are sweeping through BC are impacting thousands of families, many of whom are being evacuated and some of whom will be facing significant losses when they return home.

MDS and MCC are responding. Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) is a sister organization that was created by MCC over 50 years ago. With a mandate to respond to disasters in North America, MDS takes the lead in domestic disaster response.

Given the scope of the crisis, MDS is asking for MCC’s help.   The government and the Red Cross (and other local agencies) are taking the lead on the initial relief response to those displaced by the current fires. The role of MDS (with support from MCC) will be to assist with the recovery as people rebuilt their homes and their lives, specifically with those who are marginalized and may slip through the cracks.

We invite you to donate directly to MDS (click here). We also ask for your prayers and to consider volunteering with MDS in the recovery efforts that will take place as people rebuild their lives.
