There was a recent News Release in BC regarding the homelessness crisis in BC, the following is a summary but you can also access the official News Release here.

As we continue to pray for and serve those experiencing homelessness in our community, we want to share important news: 20 new temporary winter shelter spaces will be opening in Coquitlam this January.

Located at 2601 Lougheed Highway (Place of the Great Blue Heron, former Riverview site), the shelter will provide overnight refuge from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. through April 2026. These spaces are designed to offer warmth, safety, and dignity during the cold, wet months when life on the streets is especially difficult.

The shelter will be operated by the Progressive Housing and Health Society, with support from BC Housing and local partners. A shuttle service will connect three Tri-Cities locations to the site, helping ensure accessibility for those in need.
