What is Lent?

Lent is a period of fasting and prayer done prior to celebrating Easter. Christians use this period of time for introspection, self examination and repentance. Lent has traditionally been marked by penitential prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Lent is a preparation to celebrate God's marvelous redemption at Easter through Christ, and the resurrected life that we live and hope for as Christians.

Lent starts every year on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. Ash Wednesday 2014 fell on March 5 and Lent continues to April 19.

Over this period of time we will be looking at Spiritual Disciplines, how they can be practiced, what they can add to our lives and how they help shape our relationship with Jesus.
