Lessons From the Book of Exodus

The story of the exodus is the paradigmatic event of history. Derek Kidner likens it to a tree that spreads its roots and branches into virtually every corner of the Bible. Many young believers have been reared on the stories of the Exodus, from the story of baby Moses set adrift on the Nile to the Israelites walking through the sea on dry land to the gifts of water and mana in the wilderness. The prophets looked ahead beyond exile to a new exodus (Is. 40-55), and on the mount of transfiguration Jesus “spoke about his exodus which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.” The NT writers made abundant use of Exodus texts & images to interpret and proclaim God’s saving work through Christ, our Passover lamb. Join us this fall as we explore and apply the lessons God has for us from the book of Exodus.
