In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, our MCC BC Indigenous Neighbours program is facilitating the Listening to Indigenous Voices (LTIV) series. We invite you to join this series and prepare your heart for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
You will learn about Indigenous topics and hear from the Indigenous guest speakers in 4 interactive sessions offered by MCC BC Indigenous Neighbours program. The format will be interactive sharing circles and a combination of short readings (done before each session), discussions and talks from Indigenous guest speakers. - September 3 - Session 3: The Land is Us (central to Indigenous worldviews)
- September 10 - Session 7: Killing the Indian in the Child (residential schools and other assimilation efforts)
- September 17 - Session 8: Dispossession, Dependency & Oppression (colonization and systemic issues)
- September 24 - Session 9: Beyond Apologies (reconciliation and right relationships)
The purpose of this 4-part series is to read and listen to Indigenous worldviews, to respond to the call for reconciliation.
We will explore the history, practices, and colonization in Canada. We will also explore real pathways toward right relationships. Throughout the series, we will focus on the importance of an honest and healthy understanding of our own values and relationship with Indigenous people. We want to take this opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture; a culture that is different from your own by listening to the Indigenous guest speaker at each session.
The LTIV dialogue guide includes short articles written by various Indigenous authors. We will only be exploring 4 of the 11 sessions in the guide, although they are all equally good to read.
